| Ciurlionio flat (1998-99) – Located on Ciurlionio Street, in the heart of Vilnius, this project involved the renovation of a two-story apartment in one of the historic districts of Vilnius. The street was named after the famed composer and painter M.K. Ciurlionis, who was a key figure in the Impressionist movement. While we had a lot of flexibility with the design, we liked the traditional layout, opening up the kitchen to the living room and incorporating a wood burning stove in a filled-in door way. We chose to expose the brick on the partition wall, painting over it to retain the lightness of the interior. Floors and doors are ash, and the stairs are oak, both common to Lithuania. Upstairs there are three small bedrooms contained within the attic roof with skylights to the street elevation. The over all area is approximately 120 square meters (1200 square feet) with a spacious dining living area. The interiors were published in Namas magazine in 2001. Return to Projects Page |
